It seems that these days everything is powered by a wall wart - it's ridiculous to design surge protectors that don't support a full complement of wall warts. I'd recommend this except for a glaring design flaw: the outlets are too close together to support more than two wall-warts. Nice and sturdy metal case. Internals seem to be of high quality.
This 4-outlet model I bought for home. I buy these for work because they are sturdy and very reliable. So reliable, I bought six of teh 8-outlet units for a computer cluster.
The 'Isobar' series from Tripp Lite is a lot more than a power strip with a convenient switch. For this reason, Tripp Lite is a good choice, because you are purchasing more objectively, and not based on the company's rep alone. That's why I picked this unit.
It is true, faxes aren't expensive units, but I wouldn't consider them disposable. I replaced an old power strip with this unit after my fax got fried in a lightning storm.
The price on this item might be considered cost prohibitive, especially if you are just looking for a power strip. They are one of the few who represent the size of surge that they are able to supress, which is the only way you can tell the quality of the supressor.
With this protection installed, I feel confident with whatever I've got plugged into it.It might be a little expensive, but I don't mind paying a little knowing that my electronics are safe. Having a switch on a group of outlets is always handy, especially, if you don't need them running all the time.
It is serious protection. If you are looking for something to protect those electronic devices that are sensitive to power fluctuations, like faxes, computers, monitors, and printers, there are very few manufacturers that represent the kind of quality found with Tripp Lite.
They mount on the wall very well if you have need to do so. I have purchased several of these for work and home. A lot of surge protectors come with three or four foot cords now, which I dislike. The six foot cord is nice. They are excellent quality and hold up very well. I really like the metal housing.
I have not encountered any problems yet meaning surges or overloads but I know from the reviews that it will do its job and protect any devices connected to it.
